Welcome to Pulse-Tastic Sustainable STEM Workshop!
Where children aged 2-5 and 5-12 embark on a captivating journey into the world of the human heart. Perfect for educators and early childhood professionals, this workshop aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), My Time, Our Place (MTOP), and the Australian Curriculum, offering a rich educational experience.
Explore the Power of the Heart
In this engaging workshop, students discover how the heart functions as a continuous energy source for the body. We delve into the circulatory system, explaining how the heart pumps oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, ensuring that every part of the body receives the energy it needs. This interactive approach helps children understand the essential role of the heart in maintaining our health.
Interactive Activities
The workshop kicks off with a fun, active game where children become part of the circulatory system. They move from the "heart" to the "lungs" and back, gaining a hands-on understanding of how blood circulates continuously throughout the body.
In smaller teams, students further explore the workings of the heart through exciting activities:
Mini Heart Pump: Using bottles and tubes, children simulate the heart’s pumping action, visualising how blood travels through the body and lungs.
Pulse Oximeter:Â Students measure their own heart rates with finger pulse oximeters, observing how physical activity affects their pulse.
Stethoscope Sounds: By listening to their friends’ heartbeats with stethoscopes, children learn how these devices help us hear heart sounds.
DIY Stethoscope:Â Students create their own stethoscopes using simple materials, taking home a personalised tool to explore heart sounds further.
