Welcome to the Under the Beanstalk Sustainable STEM Workshop!
An immersive journey into sustainability and ecological care designed to inspire young minds aged 2-5 and 5-12.
Overview:
Under the Beanstalk invites children to explore the fascinating world of composting and worm farming, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental conservation and sustainable living practices.
Hands-on Activities:
Children engage in interactive activities, starting with the assembly of a transparent worm observation unit. Through this, they gain insight into the essential role of worms in composting and soil enrichment, cultivating a newfound appreciation for these vital creatures.
In addition to the worm observation unit, children collaborate to construct a three-level composting system using everyday materials. This hands-on exercise reinforces the importance of recycling and waste reduction while empowering children to take tangible steps towards environmental preservation.
Learning Journey:
As the workshop progresses, children monitor the progress of their composting and worm farming endeavors. They observe firsthand how organic waste transforms into nutrient-rich soil, witnessing the intricate workings of the worm community and gaining insights into their behaviors and interactions.
Educational Benefits:
Under the Beanstalk empowers children to become caretakers of the environment, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to implement eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. By fostering a deeper understanding of composting and worm farming, the workshop instills a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness, inspiring future generations to protect and preserve our planet for years to come.
It is carefully crafted to support the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), My Time, Our Place (MTOP), and the Australian Curriculum. Each activity is designed to meet educational standards while providing a fun and enriching learning experience for children of all ages.
